Is your posture causing repetitive stress syndrome?

Are you working from home and finding it difficult to get into a comfortable sitting or standing position without neck pain or low back pain?

It could be your alignment.

Sitting on couches with laptops, laying on the bed, hunching over the screen all can cause repetitive stress on the body.

Some signs of repetitive stress syndrome are:

Pain or tenderness in a muscle or joint, stiffness, throbbing pain, tingling, numbness, aching, weakness, loss of flexibility and cramping .

The human head weighs about 10 pounds. But as the neck bends forward and down, the weight on the cervical spine begins to increase. At a 15-degree angle, this weight is about 27 pounds, at 30 degrees it's 40 pounds, at 45 degrees it's 49 pounds, and at 60 degrees it's 60 pounds. Research is calling this “poor posture” and the resulting pain “text neck”.

Posture affects your health.

People who have bad posture usually end up with neck pain or headaches and people with neck pain often have breathing problems. This can all impact your daily life and functional ability. The problem does not just end there because the way you breathe also has a very important influence on posture and spinal stabilization.

Poor posture can lead to back pain, neck pain, jaw tension, muscle fatigue, and headaches. Rounded shoulders lead to tension around the rib cage which allow less lung expansion and decreased oxygenation to the body.

Migraines and Chiropractic

A number of scientific research studies have shown chiropractic patients had fewer headaches that control groups and took less medication by the end of the follow up period.

This means that for some people if their spines are not functioning well it can cause headaches or migraines. But for others who have spinal dysfunction – what chiropractors call subluxations – it may cause back pain or neck pain.

Lower Back Pain

For some people, lower back pain feels like just a slight annoyance, but for others, it can mean they can’t go for a walk with their family, lift and carry things at work, or compete in the sports they love to play.

Jaw pain helped by Chiropractic

Jaw Pain, TMJ and Chiropractic

The head, neck and jaw are closely linked biomechanically and neurologically. The jaw is attached to the head, and the head is attached to the spine. When you contract certain shoulder and neck muscles research has shown that the jaw muscle contractions will also increase.

Keep Your Spine Moving

According to the Mayo Clinic,

“Any extended sitting — such as at a desk, behind a wheel or in front of a screen — can be harmful. An analysis of 13 studies of sitting time and activity levels found that those who sat for more than eight hours a day with no physical activity had a risk of dying similar to the risks of dying posed by obesity and smoking.

Strength & Fatigue

Many people attribute their poor posture to weak muscles. In this video we explore the strength gains after treatment with Chiropractic care.

Pain is our alarm system.

We look at how all of the body’s senses work and how your brain interprets them, in particular with regards to the pre frontal cortex and pain signals.

Is this you?

Working from home with a less than ideal set-up has been making people feel awful. If this is you, it’s definitely time to come in for a great full body adjustment.
